Ideal for the flower and herb garden or windowsill Deep purple leaves and stems make a colourful alternative to the common green basil in a wide range of dishes, including salads, pasta, pizza and tomato dishes. Highly ornamental in the herb garden, flower garden or in a pot on the windowsill.

Culture: Likes a dryish position, and develops more flavour and scent when grown in poorish soils.

Experiment with nutritious, health-giving herbs in your kitchen, adding interesting tastes and flavours to hot and cold dishes. Try them in herb vinegars, breads and tisanes, and dry them for use in winter. To dry - gather in sunshine when flowers are just opening. Bunch, and hang upside-down in an airy place or spread out in a very cool oven. When dry, rub coarsely and store in airtight containers.
